Mission
• Help New York City children living in foster care realize their dreams of finding permanent, loving adoptive families • Raise awareness and educate the public about the thousands of children who desperately need and deserve the shelter and love of forever homes • Provide services (mentoring, internships, scholarships, etc.) to children at risk of aging out of foster care without the love, guidance and stability of a "forever family" The Heart Gallery was founded in New Mexico in 2001 by the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department. National media attention generated because of the project’s success resulted in a virtual explosion of Heart Gallery groups across America, where over 100,000 foster children are waiting to be adopted. Today there are nearly 100 Heart Galleries throughout the United States.
Heart Gallery has been featured on CNN, The Today Show, The View, 20/20, NBC, CBS, NPR and many others. Thousands of children have found their forever families as a direct result of Heart Gallery exhibitions. www.heartgallerynyc.org |

New Yorkers now have an independent option. The New York City Independence Party believes in change and community. We need to change the culture of New York politics so that it is grounded in genuine civic debate that includes and empowers all New Yorkers. And it is by building a new community of independents from the bottom up that we can effect that change.
The New York City organizations of the Independence Party set out 15 years ago with a simple idea: To create a new and independent reform movement of New Yorkers from all walks of life. Partisan politics holds back positive development in our city. It’s that simple. We are a new kind of minor party that is genuinely independent, built from the bottom up and not tied to the Democratic and Republican parties (which the other minor parties are, big time!).

New psychologies are needed: Psychologies of possibility , not prediction. Psychologies concerned not merely with what is but with what is becoming. Psychologies created not by a few experts, but re-created in many places and many times over with the participation of ordinary people. Psychologies that do not tell us who we are, but instead help us actively create our lives in new ways. Psychologies that create community -- continuously. As progressives we have come to believe that if people address the issue of human development -- in direct and practical ways-- we might indeed change the world.
The East Side Institute for Group and Short Term Psychotherapy is an international research, education and training center dedicated to creating and supporting radically humanistic practices and understandings of being human. To us, this means freeing psychology from its scientific pretenses and transforming it into a cultural activity and study. It was founded by Dr. Fred Newman and Dr. Lois Holzman.

Privately funded from the beginning, Castillo’s bold move from far west SoHo to West 42nd Street and the $12.5 million All Stars Project performing arts and education center in 2003 established it as part of New York’s theatre district, and has brought thousands of diverse audience members — young and old, sophisticates and first-timers — to Castillo.
In 2004, Castillo dramaturg Dan Friedman founded Youth Onstage!, a performance school and youth theatre that’s free to all who participate, as a place where young artists create theatre that expresses their views about the world. Celebrating more than a quarter century of producing, development, political activism and philosophy continues to resonate in all of Castillo's productions. Castillo Theatre was created by a collective of political activists and artists and led for more than two decades by its artistic director Fred Newman. Its goal has always been to do more than produce plays; Castillo has sought to redefine the form and content of American political theatre. On the occasion of its production of Martinican poet/playwright Aimé Césaire's play A Season in the Congo, Césaire wrote that Newman and Castillo's work "is a new genre... it's not just artistic. It's philosophical - an attitude toward life, performed by people who transcend the differences of color, of race, and of language."
